It is thursday, 12-th of May. Outside life breaths a quiet rhythm. Inside, sparks are flying around in a true Clash of the Titans.
At the ISB-event, the ´Robochallenge 2005´ are organised in ´Martiniplaza´in Groningen.
Moaning and groaning, happiness and bitter disappointment. This play of emotional forces happen around a playground, where one team tries to conquer the other team in the field of robot-technology.
The ´RoboChallenge´ is a game for intelligent robots, which have to show in a variety of missions, what they are capable of. The robot, that is able to collect as many points as possible in the smartest, quickest and most efficient way, will be the final winner. Points can be scored by ´harvesting stars from the universe´ by collecting coloured balls.
The robots have been built by teams of Polytechnic schools, universities an d companies. Each team may consist of up to 10 members, And each team has the opporunity to demonstrate their performances in 3 missions of 5 minuteses, during which the robots have to function completely independently, so a team is not allowed to send any signal to the robot, that is running on a fully automised programm.
All this was happening yesterday under the watchful eye of a true humanoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whatnot_(species)), dr. Universe himself.
